About the Director
Greetings! My name is Veronica Kent and I'm the owner/director and teacher of SoundSeeds Music. I have over a decade of experience teaching music classes to children, specializing in early childhood classes. I am a Waldorf Kindergarten teacher as well as a harpist, guitar player and vocalist who sings all the time! I am a recording artist and have toured regionally and recorded a CD with a world beat band, Asha Nan, and now perform original and uniquely arranged music as a soloist on harp and voice. I have two children of my own who also sing all the time! I love children and I love music and am so happy to be able to combine both!
My Philosophy
It has been my experience that all children love music! It is as natural as walking to most. There have been several scientific studies done, indicating that learning music can increase motor skills, cognitive function of the brain and spacial awareness. The science is, in my opinion, just affirmation of the good feelings we get when we make music - especially as a group. It's my job to encourage and facilitate a safe place for young children to explore the world of music. I bring in instruments and songs from around the world and from right here in the America. We have such a rich tradition of folk music here, but in our modern busy world, it is in danger of being forgotten. I want children to grow up knowing a vast array of melodies because I think the songs you sing can change you.
SoundSeeds is a new program I have started as a result of my many years of working with young children and music and the need for a non-corporate, flexible and sometimes a bit quirky music program. I would be so happy for you to join us! I offer classes with parents (or caregiver) up to age three, and classes without parents (so you can relax in the next room) for ages 3-7.
